Capernaum National Park

"Now in the synagogue there was a man who had a spirit of an unclean demon. And he cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Let us alone! What have we to do with you, Jesus of Nazareth? Did you come to destroy us? I know who you are - the Holy One of God!
Luke 4:33-34

Capernaum, on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, was "the town of Jesus" to which he came after leaving Nazareth. On the site, where the remains of a grand synagogue now stand, Jesus preached and performed many miracles. A modem church has been built over the traditional house of St. Peter, where the first church was constructed in the fifth century.
