Yardenit
"In came to pass in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And immediately, coming up from the water, he saw the heavens parting and the Spirit descending upon him like a dove."
Mark 1:9-10
In the days of the prophet Elijah's disciple Elisha, the special benefits of immersing in the Jordan River first became known (2 Kings 5:10). And ever since John baptized Jesus in the Jordan, immersion in these waters has been a highlight of Holy Land pilgrimage. Nowadays, it has become a tradition to be baptized at Yardenit, near the point where the Jordan exits the Sea of Galilee. Here, in the tranquil shade of eucalyptus trees, both comfort and inspiration can be found. |
