5 places every kid must see in Israel

Israel is well known for its rich history and legendary spots, but this fabulous country also has plenty of kids-friendly sites to enjoy while touring with your family.

It isn’t an easy task getting your kids truly excited and hyped nowadays, but there’s no need to worry cause we’ve got you covered. Here are five terrific sites that are bound to please your kids and even get their imagination up and running.

So, without further ado, lets jump right in.

Achziv National Park

Crystal clear water, naturally formed lagoons, awesome beaches and even the remains of a crusader castle are just some of the many fabulous treats this gorgeous park has to offer you and your kids. Located in the Western Galilee region of northern Israel (between Rosh Hanikra and the city of Nahariya), this park has a shallow lagoon for children and another deeper lagoon for adults to swim in as well as grassy picnic spots. It is also a great place to see Seagulls, sea turtles and even small Octopuses among the rocks and in the pools. As for the beach, it is fully Equipped with lifeguards, showers, shade covers and playgrounds for the kids to enjoy.
You can also stay in the national park campground which is open to families between Passover and Sukkot and especially during summer it is a wonderful place to spend the night while sleeping under the sky and stars.

Nahal Me’arot Nature Reserve

Have you ever wondered what it was like living in prehistoric times, cavemen style? If so, boy have we got a treat for you and your entire clan (no pun intended) to enjoy. Named by UNESCO as a world heritage site, this extraordinary place will leave you and your kids in complete awe and wonder for its rich history, geology and wonderful nature experience.
Located in the carmel mountains, just about 15. minutes drive south of Haifa, this site offers a great memorable and exciting outdoor activity for the whole family, while exploring prehistoric caves that have been here since basically the dawn of men (about 500,000 years ago!).

These 3 caves allows for a rare glimpse at how people lived, ate and hunted back in the day (5 prehistoric cultures lived in these caves!) and make sure you don’t miss out on the 3rd cave’s illustration audiovisual movie that will surely get your kids truly hyped.

In addition to being a kids friendly explanation on-site, this awesome nature reserve also has several marked trails for easy walking (paved routes), plenty of shaded picnic areas, clean bathrooms and even a small gift shop. It is definitely a fabulous trip to share with the kids and/or grandkids!

Eilat Coral Beach Nature Reserve

If you and your kids love to snorkel and swim in water that is full of marine life, coral and gorgeous fishes this is the place for you! Considered by many as one of the best and most exciting reefs in the world, this nature reserve is just a magical experience for the whole family to enjoy and an absolute perfect day trip. Located under the sea off the coast of Eilat (about 10 min. ride south of Eilat), this extraordinary coral reef makes you feel like you’re swimming in an aquarium and it is home to dozens and dozens of beautiful fishes, featuring more than 270 species of coral and 650 species of tropical fish as well as the largest underwater observatory in the Middle East. It is truly one of a kind experience to share with your kids so just bring your diving masks and gear (or rent them at the reef) and visit!

Bet Shean National Park

This is by far one of Israel’s’ largest and most thrilling archaeological sites, with many wonderful historic ruins that are still in awesome condition. You and your kids will have a blast exploring the restored ruins of the 7,000-seat Roman theater, the colonnaded streets and the gladiator amphitheater, among many others. As you explore these ancient roman empire ruins, you listen to an audio presentation at each point while walking on the spectacular ancient mosaics, touching the walls and sitting on the roman theater seats.
Obviously, there’s a lot of rich history in Bet Shean and this stunning site is definitely a one of a kind experience to really go back in time (2000 years back to be precise) and feel what it was like to live in the fifth millennium B.C.E.
Also, beside these delightful views of ancient Roman empire, make sure you don’t miss the site’s ‘city by night’ option, “Shean Nights” – a breathtaking audiovisual display taking place after sunset. This incredible sound-and-light show brings alive the ruins with projected images in a way that guarantees a night to remember.

Apollonia National Park

Treat your kids to an epic crusader adventure just 15 min. away from Tel-Aviv!
This gorgeous 13th century fortress site (also known as the ancient city and fortress of Arsuf) offers a rare and exciting look at one of the most ancient crusader castles in the world with stunning views out over the Mediterranean ocean. This site also offers you and your family a wonderful day out with many hiking and picnic opportunities. It has both paved routes and dirt ones so it’s fully accessible to everyone. There are also picnic grounds and grassy sand dunes in the adjacent Hof Hasharon National Park so Just bring a picnic lunch and enjoy!
Also, the park is built around the historical ruins of a crusader’s strong keep that is still partially intact and has a lot of informational boards and maps that give you and your kids insight to the history of the castle (inhabited for 18 successive centuries). With stunning lookout points and a tour of the ancient ruins you and your kids are in for a real treat!
