Meet The Majrase – Betiha (Bethsaida Valley) Nature Reserve

The Majrase – Beteha (Bethsaida Valley) Nature Reserve is a unique meeting point, draining the delta formed by a number of the major streams of the Golan on their way to the Sea of Galilee.

Main points of interest

  • Majrase – the Daliyot stream flows down from the Golan into the Sea of Galilee from the north-east. At the estuary of the stream is the “wet route” (marked as a blue trail) – a section of about 800 m of walking through the stream, suitable for a spring, summer or fall visit, at the end of which it is possible to return to the starting point by the “dry route” and enjoy the nature reserve and its views without walking through water. The “dry route” is also suitable for winter hikes. At the start of the Majrase route there are washrooms and changing rooms for visitors, drinking water, and a shaded area for picnics. Lighting fires is prohibited. There is an entrance fee for the nature reserve.
  • Zaki – a challenging hiking trail along the riverbed formed by the merging of the estuary of the Yehudaya stream and the Meshushim stream (marked as a green trail). The character of the trail varies according to the strength of the current in the stream – in some places it is strong and there are deep pools, but there are also areas where the water is shallow and flows gently. The Zaki trail meanders along the Yehudaya stream, and eight escape routes have been created in case of emergency or to shorten the hike. The trail ends at the entrance to Zaki Lagoon (by the water pump). To return to the parking lot, follow the black trail that runs alongside the stream. Some of the natural pools along the trail are deep and require the ability to swim or the use of floats.
  • Bek House – the home of the Bek. “Bek” is a title in the hierarchy of the Ottoman regime. Visitors can reach the house by private vehicle (marked as a red trail), and also stay overnight. The quality of the path varies according to the weather conditions, and is sometimes strewn with obstacles.
