הא הא הא הא הא! הי, סליחה. אני מתנצלת, אבל הקדמתם מאוד, ההצגה תתחיל רק בעוד כשעה. אני יודעת כי אני השחקנית הראשית. אלכסנדרה בת הלני שמי. ודאי שילמתם כסף רב כדי לראות הצגה בתיאטרון של סקיתופוליס, שלא לדבר על מקום ישיבה כאן למטה באורקסטרה! רק עשירים יכולים להרשות לעצמם נוחות כזאת. אבל אין כמו התיאטרון של סקיתופוליס, גם לבני המעמדות האמידים פחות. יש בו יותר מ-7,000 מושבים והאקוסטיקה פשוט מושלמת. ממש השתמשו בכל הטכניקות הזמינות היום להגדלת ההד: בנו מגרעות בחזית הבמה וגומחות עם קנקני נחושת מגבירי קול – ממש כמו בתיאטראות שהופעתי בהם ברומא. ההצגה היום תעסוק בסיפור חייו של הרקולס. אני מגלמת את הרה, ואתם תצחקו עד דמעות! כבר הכנתי את המסכות היפות ביותר שלי, השמחות והמצחיקות, כדי שגם הקהל בירכתי התיאטרון יראה את הבעות פניי. הקומדיה הזאת תהיה המשעשעת ביותר שהוצגה אי פעם בפרובינקיית פלשתינה. אני מחכה בקוצר רוח לרגע שאפרוץ לבמה מתוך הסקנה פרונס  לקול תשואות הקהל! סקנה פרונס, הוא הקיר המעוטר בפסלים והמתנשא מאחורי הבמה. הו, אני רואה שהוומיטוריה, הפתחים שמהם הקהל נכנס, מתחילים להתמלא. מהרו לתפוס מקום טוב, כן? אני חייבת להמשיך לחמם את מיתרי הקול שלי… הא הא הא הא הא.

נצא מהתאטרון ונתקדם לבית המרחץ, ניכנס למבנה המקורה בשתי סככות לבנות.

Station 2 – The Theater

Ha ha ha ha ha! Hi, excuse me, I apologize, but you’re very early. The performance only starts in about an hour. I know, because I’m the lead actress – Alexander Bat Heleni is my name. You’ve certainly paid a lot of money to see a show in the theater of Scythopolis, not to mention for a seat down in the orchestra! Only the rich can allow themselves such a luxury. But there’s nothing like the theater at Scythopolis, even for people of lesser means. It has more than seven thousand seats and the acoustics are simply perfect. They used all the latest techniques to amplify the echo: They built niches in front of the stage and niches with copper jars that boost the sound – just like in the theaters where I appeared in Rome. Today’s performance will tell the story of Hercules. I play the role of Hera, and you’ll laugh until you weep! I’ve already prepared my most beautiful masks, the happy ones and the amusing ones, so the audience in the back of the theater can see my expressions. This comedy will be the most entertaining ever shown in the Province of Palestine. I can hardly wait until the moment when I burst out on stage from the scaenae frons to the cheers of the audience! The scaenae frons is the wall decorated with statues that rises behind the stage. Oh, I see that the vomitoria, the entrances for the audience, are beginning to fill up. Hurry to get a good seat, yes? I have to continue warming up my voice…Ha ha ha ha ha!

Leave the theater and head to the bathhouse. Enter the structure with two white shade roofs.
