שלום חיילים, אני ליוויה, בעלת חנות לְבַדֵּי פשתן. אפשר להציע לכם כותנות פשתן בית שאן במחיר מצחיק – שני דינאריוס? מה, לא תקנו מתנה לאישה שמחכה לכם ברומא חודשים רבים? מאיזה לגיון אתם? אין חייל רומי אחד שעבר כאן ולא קנה אצלי. אחרי שהתחתנתי המשפחה של בעלי קנתה לנו את החנות הזאת ברחוב פלאדיוס – המקום הכי מרכזי בעיר. קשה להאמין שלפני שהרומאים הגיעו זרם כאן נחל חרוד והאזור היה שומם. רחוב פלאדיוס הוא הרחוב הראשי  של סקיתופוליס ומשני צידיו בנויות מדרכות מקורות וחנויות. כאן מוכרים הכול: תבלינים, מנורות שמן, רהיטים, שירותי תיקון סנדלי קלגסים, פירות מיובשים ומה לא. אבל רק אצלי תוכלו לקנות בדי פשתן וכותנות פשתן שיוצרו בסקיתופוליס. דעו לכם ששמו של פשתן סקיתופוליס יצא למרחוק, והוא נודע בכל האזור באיכותו המשובחת. אמנם הבד יקר פי חמישה מבדים אחרים, אבל, הוא שווה כל דינאריוס!

מי מכם שיש לו כסף עודף מוזמן לתרום סכום נאה לשיפוץ המדרכה ולהטבעת פסיפס חדש בה. פלאדיוס כבר תרם, אז אתם לא תתרמו? לכל תורם מובטח ששמו יונצח במדליון בפסיפס. יש אומרים שכתובות אלו ישרדו מאות ואלפי שנים וכך יזכרו אתכם שנים רבות, ומי יודע, אולי לעולמים…

נמשיך צפונה כמאה מטרים ברחוב פלאדיוס, עד שנראה משמאלנו מדרגות. נעלה לסיגמה – כיכר בצורת חצי עיגול בצידו המערבי של הרחוב. החדר המקורה הרביעי משמאל הוא חדרה של טיכה.

Station 4 – Paladius Street

Hello, soldiers, I’m Livia, the owner of the linen store. Can I offer you linen robes at a ridiculously low price – 2 denarii. What? You won’t buy a gift for the woman who’s been waiting for you in Rome for so many months? What legion are you from? There’s not a single Roman soldier who’s passed by here and not bought from me. After I got married, my husband’s family bought us this shop on Paladius Street – the most central location in town. It’s hard to believe that before the Romans came, the Harod Stream flowed here, and it was desolate. Paladius Street is the main street of Scythopolis and it’s lined on both sides with roofed sidewalks and shops. They sell everything here – spices, oil lamps, furniture, army boot repair services, dried fruit and everything else. But I’m the only one who has linen cloth and robes made in Scythopolis. You should know that Scythopolis linen is famous near and far for its fine quality. The fabric costs five times more than any other cloth, but it’s worth every denarius! If any of you have money to spare, you can donate a goodly sum to renovate the street and lay a new mosaic. Paladius has already contributed, so what about you? Every donor gets their name commemorated in a mosaic medallion. Some people say these inscriptions will last for hundreds and for thousands of years and so you’ll be remembered for generations, and who knows, maybe forever…

Continue north about one hundred meters on Paladius Street until you see steps on your left. Ascend to the Sigma – a semicircular plaza on the western side of the street. The fourth roofed room on your left is Tyche’s room.
